HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Horizon League Newcomer of the Year Katie Pokrandt (Eau Claire, Wis.) finished her freshman campaign in fine fashion on Sunday, firing an 82 to lead the Phoenix to a sixth-place finish in the 2013 Horizon League Championships on the par-72, 5,817-yard Las Colinas Course at Mission Inn Resort and Golf Club.
Green Bay had a 54-hole total of 132-over par 996. Detroit (920, +56) won the tournament championship, finishing 20 shots ahead of second-place Youngstown State (940, +76).
Pokrandt carded rounds of 80, 82, 82 to finish in a tie for 17th (244, +28). Senior Christina De Boer (Onalaska, Wis.) concluded her career a stroke back of Pokrandt in a tie for 21st (245, +29).
Freshman Sammi Grunder (Pardeeville, Wis.) started her final round with a birdie and posted an 83 on Sunday to finish tied for 28th (252, +36). The team's third freshman that played in the league championships, Steph Laude (Slinger, Wis.) shot an 84 on Sunday and finished in 30th (256, +40) while junior Grace Abitz (Appleton, Wis.) fired an 85 on Sunday and finished 34th (263, +47).
