HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Senior Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) made 14 pars in a consistent first round as the Green Bay men’s golf team sits in fourth place but just five strokes behind after the first 18 holes at the 2013 Horizon League Championships held at the par-72, 6,770-yard El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort Club and Resort.

Green Bay fired a 16-over par 304 as a team to trail Loyola (299), Cleveland State (300) and Valparaiso (301) heading into Saturday’s second round of the 54-hole event. Leader Andrew Bailey (70) of Cleveland State was the only player under to par on Friday. To follow the action on Saturday and Sunday with live scoring, click here.

Fuller played the final six holes in 1-under par, and a 2-over par 74 left him in a tie for fourth place after round one. Fellow senior Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.), the defending Horizon League champion, led for much of the back nine on Friday but suffered a couple of hiccups late to stand in a tie for ninth place with a 4-over 76. Ebert had a team-best four birdies.

Freshman Gene Kiela (Plymouth, Wis.) was 7-over with three double bogeys after 15 holes before carding birdies on 16 and 17 to finish at 5-over 77. Junior Dan Ozga (Edgerton, Wis.) closed both the front and back nines with birdies and matched Kiela with a 77 that left both players tied for 13th.
