Kiela's Final Round Helps Green Bay Finish in Third
PEORIA, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Freshman Gene Kiela (Plymouth, Wis.) fired a 2-under par 70 on Sunday in round three, helping the Green Bay men’s golf team to a third place finish at the 54-hole Bradley Invitational played this weekend at the 7,030-yard, par-72 Weaver Ridge Golf Club in Peoria, Ill.
After an opening round team score of 311, the Phoenix shaved nine shots off its score (302) in round two before closing the event with a 2-over par 290. Green Bay finished with a 54-hole total of 903, nine shots behind Valparaiso and seven back of the host Bradley.
Kiela had rounds of 76 and 74 before his closing 70 left him in a tie for sixth place. All five Phoenix golfers posted at least one sub-75 round in the event, including four players on Sunday. Sophomore Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) had an even par round of 72 while seniors Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.) both carded 74s.
Fuller was the most consistent Phoenix player for the event, using rounds of 75, 76 and 74 to finish in a tie for ninth place. Junior Sam Weber (Heartland, Wis.) had the team’s best round in round two, carding a 2-over par 74.
Green Bay returns to action on April 12-13 at the Detroit Invitational.
