DELAND, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's
tennis team (9-5) began a three-match stretch in the state of Florida on Sunday
with a 5-2 win over Kennesaw State (3-9) in a neutral site contest at the Mandy
Stoll Tennis Center on the campus of Stetson University.
The Phoenix was led by a pair of seniors, as Erik Finkenbrink (Duelmen, Germany) and
Craig Cox (Surrey, England) each
picked up a pair of victories. The two teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1
doubles to help Green Bay earn the doubles point, then Finkenbrink beat the
Owls' Tobi Menhofer at No. 1 (5-7, 6-1, 10-2) and Cox knocked off Maksim Yorsh
at No. 2 (6-3, 6-2).
Also earning singles wins for the Phoenix were freshmen Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany)
at No. 3 and Rowan Isaaks (London,
England) at No. 5.
Green Bay is back in action on Monday against Florida
Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla., at 1 p.m. The Phoenix then wraps up its trip to
Florida on Wednesday against nationally-ranked Stetson at 2:30 p.m.
