HOMEWOOD, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team (0-1) opened up its spring season on Friday night with a 6-1 loss at Chicago State (1-3). Senior Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.) picked up the lone point for the Phoenix, winning at No. 3 singles.

Anderson's win at No. 3 came in straight sets over Chicago State's Viviene Noel. After pulling out a close first set 7-6 (2), the Phoenix senior rolled 6-1 in set number two to secure the win.

Green Bay forced a third-set tiebreaker in three of the five singles matches that it lost, as freshman Stephanie Londre (Burlington, Wis.) fell 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 2, senior Rebecca Nelson (Brookfield, Wis.) fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 and sophomore Samantha Iwen (De Pere, Wis.) dropped a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 decision at No. 5.

In doubles action, Nelson and Iwen teamed up to defeat Noel and Carynne Lloyd at No. 2 (8-4), but Chicago State won at No. 1 and No. 3 to take the doubles point.

Green Bay is back in action on Saturday in Chicago against IUPUI at 3:30 p.m.

No. 2 – Nelson/Iwen (GB) def. Lloyd/Noel (CSU) 8-4
No. 3 – Navarro/Grinvalde (CSU) def. Menos/Londre (GB) 8-2
