The Green Bay men's and women's swimming teams both picked up convincing dual
meet victories at Horizon League opponent Valparaiso on Saturday at the Athletic
Recreation Center. The women's squad had a winner in all 11 events, cruising to
a 128-68 win, while the men's team took seven events in a 129-76 victory.
Senior Heather Bodin (Maple Grove, Minn.) and sophomore Dana Iverson (Kenosha, Wis.) both won a pair of individual events
for the Phoenix women on Saturday. Bodin claimed the 100-yard butterfly in
58.69 before taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.13, while Iverson won the 200
IM in 2:14.80 and the 100 backstroke in 59.99. Iverson was also a member of
Green Bay's winning 400 free relay team (3:39.93).
Other individual winners for the Phoenix women
were Anna Gomez (Burlington, Wis.)
in the 1000 freestyle (10:40.52), Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) in the 200 freestyle (1:56.51), Taylor Trelka (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) in the 50 freestyle (25.36), Racheal Wieland (Wisconsin, Rapids,
Wis.) in the 100 freestyle (55.13) and Melissa Killpatrick (Elk River, Minn.) in the 500 freestyle (5:12.68).
Junior Brian Heiser (McFarland, Wis.) was a part of three victories for the Green Bay
men, including individual wins in the 200 freestyle (1:47.32) and 500 freestyle
(4:57.56). Heiser was also a member of the victorious 400 free relay squad
(3:11.90).
Junior Cole Hackney (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also won a pair of individual events,
taking the 50 freestyle in 21.76 and the 100 butterfly in 53.87. Other winners
for the Green Bay men on Saturday were Ben Loeffelholz (Dubuque, Iowa) in the 100 freestyle (48.53) and Evan Hill (Jefferson, Wis.) in the 100
backstroke (53.27).
Saturday marked Green Bay's final dual meet
prior to its annual Florida training trip (Dec. 31-Jan. 9). The Phoenix is next
in action on Jan. 12 in Chicago at UIC.
