GREEN BAY,
Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay
volleyball senior Brittany Groth
(Oak Creek, Wis.) has been selected as a member of the 2012 American Volleyball
Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Midwest Region Team, the AVCA announced on
Tuesday. Groth becomes just the second player in Phoenix history to be named to
an all-region team, and the first since 2003.
In addition to her all-region award, Groth was also tabbed as an Honorable Mention All-American.
"Receiving an award like this is something that not only reflects individual success, but our team's success," Groth said. "Everything I do on the court is a product of my teammates making it easier for me. It is a great way to end my career at Green Bay, and I am very honored."
Groth finished her standout career as Green Bay's all-time
digs leader with 1,851 after tallying a school-record
total of 680 as a senior in 2012. Her league-leading 6.24 digs per set
average in 2012 ranked third among all NCAA Division I players and also set a
new single-season school record.
The 2012
All-Horizon League performer was a three-time Horizon League Defensive
Player of the Week in 2012, winning the award on Aug.
27, Sept.
24 and Nov.
12. Groth's first weekly award of the year came after she set the school
record for digs in a three-set match (29) on Aug. 25 against Auburn.
Groth was one of four
Horizon League players on the All-Midwest Region Team, as Cleveland State's
Marie Frease and Kara Koch and Valparaiso's Taylor Root also made the squad.
Earning honorable mention recognition were UIC's MaryKate Imrie and Valpo's
Ellen Vanden Berg.

being Betty Slinger in 2006.
