Green Bay Hosts Central Michigan in Home Opener Saturday at 2 p.m.

Green Bay has won 12 consecutive home openers

GREEN BAY, Wis. ( - The Green Bay (1-0) women's basketball team looks to extend its home opening winning streak to 13 games Saturday, Nov. 17 as it hosts Central Michigan (1-1) at 2 p.m. at the Kress Events Center.

Saturday marks the sixth meeting in the series between Green Bay and Central Michigan and the first in 19 seasons. CMU owns the overall series record, 4-1, with Green Bay's lone win over the Chippewas coming during the last meeting (63-34) Dec. 10, 1993.

Green Bay is currently on an eight-game regular season winning streak after edging Northern Iowa 54-53 Nov. 10 in its regular season opener.  Neither team led by more than four points in the final 12:08 of the contest as the Phoenix defense prevailed in the final seconds for the win over the Panthers. Senior Sarah Eichler (Grafton, Wis.) tied a game-high 17 points to lead the Phoenix while classmates Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.) and Stephanie Sension (Hopkins, Minn.) added 16 and 13 points respectively.

Central Michigan sophomore Jessica Green has led the Chippewas in its first two contests averaging 20 points, six rebounds and three steals to open the season. For her efforts, Green was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. CMU opened its season with a 73-58 win over Bradley before falling 82-72 at Northwestern. Saturday's game against Green Bay will be the third consecutive road trip for the Chippewas.

BANNERS AND BLUE DOTS: Prior to tip off of Saturday's game, Green Bay will unveil its NCAA Tournament and Horizon League championship banners commemorating the team's success in the 2011-12 season.

MEMORABLE MARK: Senior Lydia Bauer (Lake Zurich, Ill.) will be making her 100th appearance in a Phoenix uniform Saturday, the second most appearances in a game among players on the current roster. Eicher Has played in 102 games for the Phoenix. Borseth will be leading Green Bay in a contest for the 280th time in his career.

KOZY AT THE KRESS: Green Bay's Kress Events Center, which celebrated its fifth anniversary of Green Bay women's basketball Saturday, Nov. 3, is considered one of the toughest arenas to play in. With its 79-6 (.929) overall record at the Kress Center, Green Bay ranks third in the statistic behind Tennessee's Thompson-Boling Arena (353-23, .939) and Connecticut's Gampel Pavilion (277-18, .938).

MICHIGAN PARALLELS: Both Green Bay head coach Kevin Borseth and Central Michigan coach Sue Guevara have both coached at Michigan throughout their careers. Guevara led the Wolverines to a 123-82 record from 1996-2003 while Borseth coached Michigan to an 87-73 record from 2007-2012 before returning to the Phoenix this season for his second tenure.

POSTSEASON SUCCESS: Both teams appeared in postseason play during the 2011-12 season. Green Bay advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after capturing its 13th Horizon League Tournament Championship while Central Michigan earned a spot in the WNIT after its appearance in the MAC Tournament Championship game.

STARTING SENSION: With Green Bay returning four of its five starters this season, Sension fill the fifth spot for the Phoenix in the starting line-up. Sension had an impressive performance in her starting debut at UNI Nov. 10 when she scored eight of her first-half-high 12 points in the final 6:07 of the half, including four points in the final 49 seconds. Sension played a career-high 33 minutes in the season opener, scoring 13 points while grabbing six rebounds, one shy of tying her career high.
