VERMILLION, S.D. (GreenBayPhoenix.com)
- The Green Bay men's (2-3) and women's (3-2) swimming and diving teams
concluded a successful trip to the state of South Dakota on Saturday as both
squads defeated South Dakota at the USD Pool in the Dakota Dome. The
men's squad won all but one of the meet's 13 events in its 149-89 triumph,
while the women's team took nine of 13 events en route to a 148-95 win.
Senior Mitchell Spaeth (Fredonia, Wis.)
won both diving events for the Phoenix men, taking the 1-meter with a score of
269.02 and the 3-meter with a total of 288.53. Sophomore Logan Parker (Corvallis,
Ore.) also won twice individually in the 400-meter (4:17.46) and 800-meter
(8:59.79) freestyle races.
Junior Kendra Rottier (Green Bay, Wis.)
was a two-time individual winner for the Phoenix women, finishing first in the
200 (2:12.96) and 400 (4:35.58) freestyles. Senior Heather Bodin (Maple Grove,
Minn.) also won twice, claiming the 200 IM (2:27.33) and the 100 butterfly
(1:06.46).
The Phoenix squads also competed on Friday evening at
South Dakota State, where the women picked up a 132.5-108.5 victory and the men
fell to the Jackrabbits 146.5-96.5 in Brookings, S.D.
Spaeth set the SDSU pool record in the 3-meter diving event, placing first with an impressive score of 327.08. It broke the old mark of 301. Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.) took the 3-meter board on the women's side, finishing with a total of 243.31, and Jessica Stolfi (Kenosha, Wis.) won the 1-meter with 231.60.
Picking up individual wins in the pool for the Phoenix women were Megan Burley (Hazelhurst, Wis.) in the 400-yard IM (4:38.18), Heather Bodin (Maple Grove, Minn.) in the 200 butterfly (2:12.55), Dana Iverson (Kenosha, Wis.) in the 200 backstroke (2:11.18) and Erin Cox (Berlin, Wis.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.13).
Tyler Evans (Lodi, Wis.) and Robert Miner (Madison, Wis.) were each individual winners on the men's side, as Evans won the 200 free (1:45.03) and Miner claimed the 200 butterfly (1:56.72).
Green Bay is back in action on Nov.
16-17 when it hosts the Phoenix 1-2-3 meet at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium.
