GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (2-10-3, 0-4-2 HL) men's
soccer team will host Cleveland State (9-5-2, 4-1-1 HL) in its 2012 season
finale Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at Aldo Santaga Stadium. Prior to the
contest, Phoenix fans will thank and recognize seniors Alonso Flores (Chicago,
Ill.) and Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) for their dedication to the men's
soccer program.
Saturday's game marks the 37th
meeting between Green Bay and Cleveland State with the Phoenix holding a
19-15-3 series edge over the Vikings. Green Bay has won two of the past three
meetings against Cleveland State, including last season's victory on the
Vikings' home field Oct. 22.
Green Bay's Kirby Allen (Appleton,
Wis.) has led the Phoenix all season with three goals and seven points while
senior Alonso Flores (Chicago, Ill.) paces the team with two assists and 14
shots on goal. The Vikings are led by junior forward and 2011 First Team
All-League selection Admir Suljevic who has 11 points, five goals and three
assists this season.
This season the Phoenix is 2-4-1 on
its home field and has forced its opponents to a program-high five double
overtime games during the 2012 season. A win Saturday would mark the third time
in four years Green Bay has opened and closed its home slate with a win.
STELLAR SENIORS: Saturday also marks the final game as a Phoenix for seniors Flores and
Wehking who will both graduate from UW-Green Bay double majoring in Business
and Spanish.
With the help of their teammates,
Wehking and Flores leave the Green Bay men's soccer program with an overall
record of 40-24-9 and 17-11-2 in Horizon League play. Flores and Wehking have
helped guide their teams to a 3-1 record against in-state rival Wisconsin, two
Horizon League Tournament championship game appearances, capturing the shootout
victory in 2009 to clinch and automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
