GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay men's soccer alum Dan
O'Brien (2006-07) looks to lead the Tampa bay Rowdies to the North American
Soccer League Championship against defending champion, Minnesota Stars FC,
Saturday, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The contest is the second leg of the
NASL Championship Series as the Stars lead the total goals, home-and-home
series 2-0 after the Oct. 20 first leg at NSC Stadium in Blaine, Minn.
Should the Rowdies win the second leg
by two goals after 90 minutes, the game will go to extra time. If the
aforementioned scenario plays out, based on the 2-0 Minnesota win in the first
game, the teams will advance to a 30 minute extra time period followed by
penalty kicks should the game be deadlocked. Away goals are not used in NASL
and the extra time period does not feature a sudden death "Golden Goal" format.
A two-time First Team All-League and
All-Region selection with the Phoenix, O'Brien joined the Rowdies this season
after spending the past two years playing professionally in New Zealand's
Central Premier League. O'Brien's professional career kicked off in 2008 with
the Minnesota Thunder (USL).
The NASL and the USL make up the
second tier of professional soccer in the United States right below the first
tier Major League Soccer (MLS).
Saturday's championship game will be
streamed free here.
