GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After a three-game road trip, the
Green Bay (2-9-3, 0-3-2 HL) men's soccer team is looking forward to playing its
final two games of its regular season slate on its home field of Aldo Santaga
Stadium. The Phoenix kicks off its final pair of home games when it hosts UIC
(6-5-2, 2-1-1 HL) Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. before wrapping up regular season
play Saturday Nov. 3 hosting Cleveland State for senior day at 1 p.m.
Green Bay enters Saturday's contest
in a must-win situation in order to be one of six teams to qualify for the
Horizon League Tournament taking place Nov. 6, 9-11. With a win, the
eighth-place Phoenix could move up to fifth place in the standings with a 1-3-2
conference record. UIC currently stands in second place with its 2-1-1 league
record behind Detroit who is in first with a 3-0-0 record against Horizon
League opponents.
The Phoenix hosts UIC after coming
off a 3-0 loss on the road at the in-state
rival Wisconsin Badgers Wednesday, Oct. 17 in a game that featured a torrential downpour rain
storm in addition to senior goalkeeper Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) leaving
the contest late in the first half due to a minor injury.
Green Bay is 2-3-1 on its home field
of Aldo Santaga Stadium this season and has forced its opponents to a
program-record five double overtime games during its 2012 season.
ABOUT THE SERIES... Saturday's game is the 48th meeting between Green Bay and UIC with the
Phoenix holding a 29-16-2 series record over the Flames. Green Bay has won
three of its past four meetings against UIC with two of those victories at Aldo
Santaga Stadium.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT... UIC comes to Green Bay after a week's rest following two
consecutive wins, including its most recent 3-1 victory at Drake University
Oct. 13. In addition to its game against the Phoenix, the Flames have two
remaining conference games (at Cleveland State, vs. Detroit) with an
opportunity to pick up points in the standings.
UIC is led by reigning Horizon League
Player of the Year and First Team All-League selection Ivan Stanisavljevic who
has six goals and four assists for the Flames. Stanisavljevic has taken a
league-best 46 shots on the season while his six goals rank second among league
players and assists rank third.
