EAST LANSING, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's tennis team opened competition at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Thursday with the singles qualifying rounds at the Michigan State University Indoor Tennis Facility.
Senior Craig Cox (Surrey, England) went 2-0 on the day, defeating UIC's Maurizio Feoli 6-3, 6-1 before knocking off Detroit's Pablo Nunez 7-5, 6-4. Cox will face IPFW's Daniel Kang on Friday for the right qualify for the Main Draw.
Green Bay's Erik Finkenbrink (Duelmen, Germany) and Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) are already in the Main Draw's field of 64 competitors, and will begin play in Friday. The first round of doubles matches also opens on Friday in East Lansing.
