MADISON, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving
teams opened up their 2012-13 seasons on Saturday afternoon with dual meets against Wisconsin at the UW Natatorium in Madison. The
Badgers won all but one event in both meets, earning a 140-94 win on the women's
side and a 142-93 victory on the men's side.
The Phoenix squads each claimed
victories in the meet's final event - the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet
of Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.), Kendra Rottier (Green Bay, Wis.), Dana Iverson (Kenosha, Wis.) and Taylor Trelka (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) raced
to a win in 3:40.44 for the women, while Tyler Evans (Lodi, Wis.), Cole Hackney
(Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Logan Parker
(Corvallis, Ore.) and Ben Loeffelholz
(Dubuque, Iowa) finished with a winning time of 3:11.08 for the men.
Wolf picked up a pair of second-place
individual finishes in the women's 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races,
touching in at 24.71 in the 50 and 53.96 in the 100. Also earning runner-up
finishes for the Phoenix women were Iverson in the 200 backstroke (2:11.59),
Rottier in the 500 free (5:13.96), Megan Burley (Hazelhurst, Wis.) in the 200 butterfly (2:13.54), Marlee Kiander (Tomahawk, Wis.) in the
200 breaststroke (2:31.83), Jessica Stolfi (Kenosha, Wis.) in 1-meter diving (218.18) and Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.) in 3-meter diving (244.65).
Hackney turned in one of
the top individual performances on the men's side, racing to a second-place
finish in the 50 free. The Phoenix junior finished in 21.99, just six
one-hundredths of a second behind Wisconsin's Damon Zito (21.93).
Senior diver Mitchell Spaeth (Fredonia, Wis.) had a
solid day on the boards for the Phoenix men, finishing second in both the
1-meter and 3-meter events. Spaeth was just five points behind the Badgers'
Logan Knauss (298.95) in the 3-meter competition, finishing with a score of
293.93, and was less than 10 points back of Knauss on the low board with a
total of 263.63.
Additional runners-up on
the men's side were Evans in the 100 free (47.40), Parker in the 500 free
(4:54.41), Robert Miner (Madison,
Wis.) in the 200 butterfly (1:58.86) and Jonathan Lesniak (McHenry, Ill.) in the 100 breaststroke (2:16.78).
The Phoenix men and women
return to action next Saturday when they host Horizon League rival Cleveland
State for Alumni Weekend at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium at noon.
