PEORIA, Ill.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams had their final tune
up before the Horizon League Championship with the Bradley Classic held at
Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill. Friday, Oct. 12.
The women's team placed 19th, scoring 495 points ahead of
Creighton, DePaul, Illinois and Horizon League rival UW-Milwaukee.
Freshman Sarah Mauel (Green Bay, Wis.) paced Green Bay with a
44th place finish in a time of 22:13 while senior Areanna Lakowske (Sparta,
Wis.) finished the 6K course in 92nd place with a time of 22:47.
Freshman Jennifer Jones (Appleton, Wis.) and sophomores
Nicole Will (Luxemburg, Wis.) and Erica Johnson rounded out the top five
scorers for the Phoenix, finishing in 109th, 115th and 143rd place
respectively.
Illinois State won the women's team competition with 102
points while Horizon League foe UIC finished in 17th place with 442 points.
UIC, Milwaukee and Green Bay were the three schools representing the Horizon
League in the ninth annual classic.
On the men's side, junior Alexander Kimble (Green Bay, Wis.)
led the Phoenix with his 114th place finish in a time of 27:39 followed closely
by Andrew Sorenson (Onalaska, Wis.) in 115th place with a time of 27:53.
Seniors William Lobner (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), Evan Wachter
(Plymouth, Wis.) and Andrew Dockendorff (LaCrescent, Minn.) rounded out the top
five scorers for the Phoenix, finishing the 8K course in 119th, 120th, and 123rd
place respectively.
Southern Illinois won the men's overall championship while
UIC finished ninth and Milwaukee finished in 11th place overall.
Green Bay will prepare to compete in the Horizon League Championships
hosted by Milwaukee in Kenosha, Wis. The meet will be held at the Parkside
National cross country course Saturday, Oct. 27 with the women's 5K getting
underway at 11 a.m. followed by the men's race at 12 p.m.
