GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (2-7-3, 0-2-2 HL) men's
soccer team will look to move up in the Horizon League standings as it continues
its three-game road stretch with a trip to Loyola (1-7-2, 0-1-2 HL) Saturday,
Oct. 13 at Loyola Soccer Park at 7 p.m. With a win, the Phoenix would move up to third
or fourth place in the Horizon League standings. Green Bay is currently in
sixth place while the Ramblers are in eighth heading into Saturday's game.
Green Bay enters Saturday's contest
after playing its fifth double overtime game this season, the most double
overtime games in a single season in the history of the program. In a four-day
span Green
Bay battled Milwaukee to a 2-2 double overtime tie Oct. 3 before playing Valparaiso
to a 1-1 double overtime tie Oct. 6.
Saturday's game will be the first for
the Phoenix in seven days, its longest span of rest between games up to this
point in the season.
Eight players have scored goals for
Green Bay this season with Kirby Allen (Appleton, Wis.) leading the way with
three goals in nine games while Alonso Flores (Chicago, Ill.) and Sam Krenzien
(Wauwatosa, Wis.) have each added two goals in 12 games. Allen ranks in the top
10 in the league with seven points, ranking ninth among players and is one of eight
players with three goals on the season.
As a team Green Bay leads the league
with 61 saves on the season while Loyola ranks fourth with 51 saves. On the
offensive side of the ball, Green Bay's Ahmad Bah (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Whitney
Browne (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Krenzien rank seventh and ninth respectively
among league players with Bah and Browne taking 27 shots and Krenzien 24.
SCOUTING THE RAMBLERS... Loyola entered the 2012 season as the reigning Horizon League
Tournament champion. The Ramblers battle the Phoenix Saturday after giving up
two early goals against cross-town rival UIC Oct. 10 at Flames Field,
eventually falling 3-1 to the Flames.
As a team Loyola ranks eighth among
Horizon League teams with seven goals. Sophomore forward Andrew Raymonds leads
the Ramblers with 24 shots on the season, ranking ninth among all league
players.
ABOUT THE SERIES... Saturday's game will be the 24th meeting between these two teams with
Green Bay holding a 14-6-3 series lead over the Ramblers and a four-game
winning streak. Saturday will also be the first time in six games that Green
Bay has traveled to Chicago to battle the Horizon League opponent.
