GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (2-6-1, 0-1-1 HL) men's
soccer team will look to bounce back and pick up points in Horizon League play
as it hosts in-state rival Milwaukee (4-4-1, 0-0-1 HL) Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7
p.m. at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The game will be filmed by Time Warner Cable
Sports32 and be rebroadcast Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
Both teams enter Wednesday's contest
as two of five teams looking for their first win in Horizon League play. Green
Bay is coming off a 2-1 loss to Wright State Sept. 29 while on the same day the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee battled Loyola to a 1-1 draw in its
conference opener.
Sophomore Kirby Allen (Appleton,
Wis.) continues to lead Green Bay with three goals while Alonso Flores
(Chicago, Ill.) and Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) each have two goals on the
year for the Phoenix. Senior Whitney Browne (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) leads the
Phoenix with two assists and 23 shots. As a team, Green Bay is second in the
league with 45 saves and one of five teams with two shutouts in the season.
Sophomore midfielder Laurie Bell
leads UWM and is tied for second in the league with four goals and three
assists. With a shots-on-goal percentage of 43.8, Bell is also 3-for-3 on
penalty kicks this season. As a team, the Panthers lead the league with 151
shots and is second with 13 goals.
Green Bay is 2-3 on its home field this
season with wins over Northern Kentucky and Northern Illinois while the
Panthers are 0-4-1 on the road at this point in the season.
ABOUT THE SERIES... Wednesday's game will be the 42nd meeting between the in-state rivals and
the 36th battle for rights to the Chancellor's Cup. The Panthers own the series
record 14-24-3 over the Phoenix while Green Bay has won three of the last four
meetings. It will be the first time in three years Green Bay hosts Milwaukee with
the last two meetings going to double overtime in Milwaukee.
A familiar face will be coaching the
Panthers as former Green Bay coach Kris Kelderman is in his first year as head
coach of the in-state rival Panthers. Kelderman's lone season with the Phoenix
was during the 2011 campaign.
