OSHKOSH, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team (1-1) opened its fall schedule on Saturday with a pair of contests against in-state Division III opponents at the Kolf Sports Center Complex in Oshkosh. The Phoenix defeated UW-Oshkosh 5-4 in the opener before falling 6-3 to UW-La Crosse.

Sophomore Amanda Timm (Milwaukee, Wis.) had a solid day for the Phoenix, winning both of her No. 1 singles matches while also notching a win at No. 1 doubles. Timm earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Oshkosh's Preslee Nolte in the morning, and then downed La Crosse's Abby Tresedder 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 in the afternoon match.

"Timm showed a warrior mentality at No. 1 singles," Phoenix head coach Sara Schubring said. "She made key shots at key times, including a blistering backhand against Tresedder to earn a late mini-break during the match's tie-break."

Freshman Stephanie Londre (Burlington, Wis.) went unbeaten in her first two collegiate matches, picking up a quartet of wins. Londre defeated the Titans' Megan Etten (6-3, 6-3) at No. 4 singles and the Eagles' Karie Williams (6-2, 6-0) at No. 3, and also teamed up with senior Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.) for two wins at No. 2 doubles.

The Phoenix will return to action on Oct. 13-14 when it travels to Milwaukee, Wis., for the Panther Round Robin.
