GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After nearly
a week and a half since its last game, Green Bay women's soccer (3-4-0) will
travel to Normal, Ill. for a 3 p.m. matchup with Illinois State on Wednesday.
The Phoenix enters the contest trying to post its first three-game winning
streak since 2006.
Before the 10-day break, Green Bay started off a red-hot
weekend with a 4-2 win over Michigan Tech Sept. 7. Freshman Maria Lillge
(Appleton, Wis.) scored her first two collegiate goals on a night that allowed
head coach Trevor Warren
to play 24 players. The Phoenix outshot the Huskies 17-13, and posted a 9-2
advantage in corner kicks.
Despite conceding an early goal, Green Bay completed
the weekend sweep with a 3-1 victory over South Dakota Sept. 9. Sophomore Emily Friedl
(Kenosha, Wis.) recorded her first goal of the season to spark the Phoenix
offense. Freshman Heidi Hartmann
(Plymouth, Wis.) netted her first career goal late in the game to secure the
win.
Illinois State (5-2-2) will also be seeking a
three-game winning streak, coming off a 2-1 victory over Bowling Green and a
1-0 win over Toledo last weekend. The Redbirds hold a 9-3-0 advantage all-time
over the Phoenix, and won the last meeting between the two teams in 2008.
Green Bay will return home and open Horizon League
play with a noon matchup against Detroit on Saturday.
