MEQUON, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green
Bay women's cross country runner Sarah Mauel (Green Bay, Wis.) continued a
solid start to her freshman campaign, leading the Phoenix to a Division I first
place finish Saturday, Sept. 15 at the 20th annual Concordia Invite. Green Bay
captured the women's Division I title scoring 16 points over in-state Horizon
League rival UW-Milwaukee.
Mauel
led the field of 210 runners with a time of 22:34.8, averaging a 6:04/mile
pace. It was the second consecutive week Mauel ran to a dominant finish after
capturing third place in last weekend's Midwest Collegiate Open.
Senior
Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) was fifth overall and second among Division I
competitors, crossing the line with a time of 23:24. Nicole Will (Luxemburg,
Wis.) also finished in the top ten, running to an eighth place overall finish
and third among the Division I field with a time of 23:32.
Freshman
Jennifer Jones (Appleton, Wis.) was 12th place overall with a time of 24:00.5
and fourth in the Division I field. Rounding out the top five runners for Green
Bay on the women's side was sophomore Erica Johnson (Felch, Mich.) with a time
of 24:16, crossing the line 17th overall and sixth among Division I
competitors.
On
the men's side, four runners finished in the top 10 among Division I
competitors with junior Alexander Kimble (Green Bay, Wis.) leading the way with
a fifth place finish in the Division I field and 34th place overall with a time
of 27:48.2. Sophomore Andrew Sorenson (Onalaska, Wis.) was right behind Kimble,
crossing the line in 37th place overall and sixth in the Division I field with
a time of 27:53.
Senior
William Lobner (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) ran to a Division I eighth place finish
with a time of 28:48 while Jacob Nitzke (Fremont, Wis.) rounded out the top ten
DI field with a time of 29:53. Senior Andrew Dockendorff (La Crescent, Minn.)
completed the top five finishers for Green Bay with a time of 30:12 and and 11th
place finish in the DI field.
As
a team, Green Bay scored 40 points while UW-Milwaukee won the Division I
competition with 17 points.
For
the first time in three weeks, both teams will travel out of state for their
next race as the Phoenix will compete in the Notre Dame Invitational Friday,
Sept. 28 in South Bend, Ind.
