GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (2-2-1) men's soccer team will look to move above the .500
mark as it wraps up its four-game road stretch Friday, Sept. 14 at Detroit
(2-4-0), kicking off Horizon League play at 3 p.m. CT.
Green Bay enters Friday's contest after a 0-0 scoreless
double overtime draw against unbeaten Missouri State (4-0-2) in the Dayton
Tournament. The game marked the second shutout of the season for the Phoenix as
defenders Defrim Ramusheveski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and Billy Donovan (St.
Charles, Mo.) were named to the All-Tournament team.
Making his second career start and third overall collegiate
appearance for the Phoenix was sophomore goalkeeper Max Nimmo (Janesville,
Wis.) who enters Friday's game as the reigning Horizon League Defensive Player
of the Week after registering a career-high seven saves against Missouri State.
Nimmo has been filling in for senior keeper Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) who
continues to rehab an ankle injury sustained Aug. 31. Wehking's status for
Friday's game against Detroit will be a game-time decision.
The Phoenix is being led by sophomore Kirby Allen (Appleton,
Wis.) who has three goals, one assist and seven points on the season. Senior
Whitney Browne (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) leads all players with 13 shots, five on
goal. As a team, Green Bay leads the league in goals against average (0.94) and
is third in the league with 25 saves.
SCOUTING DETROIT: Detroit is 1-0 on its home field and enters Friday's contest
coming off a 4-2 loss at Canisius Sept. 9. Detroit's Pat Lepera leads the
league with four goals on the season while the Titans are second as a team with
nine goals.
Detroit has made a league-best 31 saves behind goalkeeper
Nathan Steinwascher who is currently ranked seventh in the nation in the
statistic.
ABOUT THE SERIES: Detroit owns a slight 7-10-4 edge
over the Phoenix in its series which began in 1990. Green Bay has gone 6-0-2 in
its last eight games against the Titans, winning the past three.
