GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - For the second time in three weeks, a
Green Bay goalkeeper has earned honors from the Horizon League for their
performance. Sophomore Max Nimmo (Janesville, Wis.) earned Defensive Player of
the Week honors for the week of Sept. 3-9, announced by the league office
Monday. It is the first award of Nimmo's young career with the Phoenix.
Nimmo registered a career-high seven
saves in Green Bay's (2-2-1) 0-0 double overtime scoreless draw against
undefeated Missouri State (4-0-2) in the Dayton Marriott Classic Sept. 9. The
Bears threatened to score early in the contest but Nimmo and the Green Bay
defense stopped shots in the seventh and 15th minutes to the keep the contest
scoreless.
Despite Missouri State outshooting
Green Bay 11-2 in the second period, the Phoenix defense once again played
tough, forcing double overtime in which Nimmo made two big saves to earn the
tie.
Green Bay's game against Missouri
State was the second career start for Nimmo who is defending the goal in place
of senior keeper Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) who suffered an injury early in
the second period against Northern Illinois Aug. 31. Wehking was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week Aug. 20 after record Green Bay's program record 20th career shutout.
Nimmo's efforts against Missouri
State were backed up by sophomore defenders Defrim Ramushevski (South
Milwaukee, Wis.) and Billy Donovan (St. Charles, Mo.) who were named to the All-Tournament
Team.
The Phoenix will wrap up its long
road stretch with its Horizon League opener at Detroit (2-4-0) Friday, Sept. 14
at 4 p.m.
