DAYTON, Ohio
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay
men's soccer team used a strong defensive effort from keeper Max Nimmo (Janesville, Wis.) and the
back line to earn a 0-0 double overtime scoreless draw against undefeated Missouri
State (4-0-2) to conclude the Dayton Marriott Classic.
The strong defensive effort by the Phoenix (2-2-1) landed
Defrim Ramushevski (South Milwaukee,
Wis.) and William Donovan (St. Charles, Mo.) on the Marriott Classic All-Tournament
Team. Green Bay's opening game of the tournament against host Dayton on Friday night
was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Missouri State came into the game with four
consecutive shutouts and threatened to get an early goal, but Nimmo stopped
shots in the seventh and 15th minutes to keep the score 0-0.
Green Bay took control of possession over the next 10
minutes, firing three shots and garnering two corner kicks. Shots by Alonso Flores (Chicago, Ill.) and Jordan Dover (Ontario, Canada) were
stopped during the stretch by MSU keeper Andrew Riggs, who stopped six shots in
the game.
Shots were 6-5 in favor of Missouri State as the two
teams were scoreless at the break.
Nimmo, starting in place of injured Phoenix keeper Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.), stepped
up big in the second half and overtime, making five saves to keep the slate
clean.
In the first overtime, Green Bay fired two shots,
including AJ Patterson's (Menomenee
Falls, Wis.) shot in the 97th minute which was stopped by Riggs.
Flores and Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) each fired two shots for the Phoenix, who
finished with nine shots as a team.
Green Bay returns to action on Friday, Sept. 14, playing
its Horizon League opener at Detroit at 4 p.m.
