PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams kicked off their 2012
season with the UIC Opener Saturday, Sept. 1 at Horse Trail Lake in Palos
Heights, Ill.
On the women's side, freshman Sarah Mauel (Green Bay, Wis.)
had an impressive start to her collegiate career with the Phoenix as she
finished the two-mile course in fourth place with a time of 11:38.9 while senior
Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) rounded out the top ten with a time of 11:58.8.
Nicole Will (Luxemburg, Wis.) crossed the line in 16th place
with a time of 12:12 while freshman Jennifer Jones (Appleton, Wis.) finished 18th
overall with a time of 12:17. Junior Kristi Petasek (New Franken, Wis.) rounded
out the top five for Green Bay with a time of 12:31.6.
Junior Alexander Kimble (Green Bay, Wis.) led the way for
Green Bay on the men's side crossing the line with a time of 22:07.1 while sophomore
Andrew Sorenson (Onalaska, Wis.) was 27th with a time of 22:48. William Lobner
(Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) finished the 4.1 mile course in a time of 23:37 while
Stephen Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) crossed the line with a time of 23:49.
Andrew Dockendorff (LaCrescent, Minn.) rounded the top five
finishers for the Phoeinx with a time of 24:27 for a 35th-place finish.
Green Bay competed against Horizon League rivals UW-Milwaukee
and host UIC in the dual meet scoring format.
Next weekend (Sept. 8) Green Bay will compete in the Midwest Collegiate
Open held on the campus at UW-Parkside at 10:00 a.m.
