GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's soccer team scored three goals in the first half to wrap up exhibition play with a 5-0 win over St. Joseph's College Saturday, Aug. 18 at Aldo Santaga Stadium. It was the final tune-up for the Phoenix who kicks off regular season play Friday, Aug. 24 when it hosts Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m.

Five minutes into the contest senior Alonso Flores (Chicago, Ill.) took a shot from inside the box surrounded by defenders to give Green Bay the early 1-0 advantage.

In the 20th minute Whitney Browne (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) had the corner kick for the Phoenix finding Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) in the box for the 2-0 cushion. Less than three minutes later Defrim Ramushevski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) took a header shot that was later rebounded and kicked in for the insurance goal by William Donovan (St. Charles, Mo.).

In the first period, Green Bay outshot St. Joseph's College 11-3 and 4-0 on corner kicks. Browne led the Phoenix with three shots in the opening half.

With 24 minutes remaining in the second half, Kirby Allen (Appleton, Wis.) took the throw-in for the Phoenix from the left side of the field. Allen found Krenzien in the box for his second goal of the contest and the 4-0 advantage. Krenzien added his third and final goal of the contest with less than eight minutes remaining as the Phoenix secured the 5-0 shutout.

"Sam has had a great attitude since day one and he worked for his goals tonight," said head coach Dan Popik. "He had good finishes but I hope we didn't waste his goals this early but I'm sure he'll get more this year."

Green Bay finished the contest outshooting the Pumas 22-9 and 6-2 on corner kicks. Krenzien led all players with six shots while Browne added four.

EXHIBITION RECAP... Green Bay finishes exhibition play winning both of its contests while scoring a combined total of eight goals while holding its opponents to one. The Phoenix was lead in scoring by Krenzien who scored a combined four goals in the wins.

The Phoenix also outshot its opponents 40-19 while Green Bay goalie Ryan Wehing (St. Louis, Mo.) registered seven saves.

"We got two results in exhibition play and one of our goals was to make sure we get a shutout and we did that tonight," said Green Bay head coach Dan Popik. "We needed to play as much as we can to get to know each other, for the staff to get to know the players and the players to get to know the staff and players to know each other and I think these two games accomplished that."
