GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - For the first time since the 2007
season, the Green Bay (22-26, 11-12 HL) softball team landed three players on
the postseason All-Horizon League Teams, announced by the Horizon League office
Tuesday.
Sophomore outfielder Miranda Reinke
(Milwaukee, Wis.) and junior pitcher Allison Goecks (Beloit, Wis.) were both Second
Team All-League selections, the first All-League honor of both their careers. For
the third consecutive season, Green Bay has a player named to the All-Newcomer
Team in freshman Hailey Mohrfeld (Menominee Falls, Wis.).
Reinke leads Green Bay with a .336 batting
average and slugging percentage of .484, which also ranks 10th among Horizon
League players. The 5'5" sophomore has 43 hits on the season and a team-high
eight doubles and 62 total bases while starting 44 games for the Phoenix.
Reinke is second on the team with 20 runs on the season and a perfect 6-for-6
on stolen bases.
Goecks has been solid for the Phoenix
from the mound this season, making 28 appearances while pitching 13 complete
games. The right-hander had a career-high 12 strike outs March 15 against Howard
in the Rebel Spring Games while recently striking out 10 batters in Green Bay's
2-0 win in its doubleheader against Youngstown State May 5. Goecks' 111 strikeouts ranks third on Green Bay's individual season record list and her ERA of
3.01 ranks sixth among Horizon League pitchers.
Mohrfeld led Green Bay's freshman
class with 98 at-bats, 27 hits, five doubles, seven RBIs, batting .276 while
starting 31 games. Mohrfeld hit a career-best 3-for-4 from behind the plate
April 7 in Green Bay's series finale at Detroit. The 5'7" infielder hit her
first collegiate career homerun April 1 in Green Bay's series finale against
regular season Horizon League champion Valparaiso.
The Crusaders earned the right to
host the Horizon League Softball Championship, which begins Wednesday, May 9.
No. 6 seed Green Bay will battle defending champion, No. 3 seed UIC (25-25,
12-9 HL) at 1:30 p.m.
