Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Senior Eleanor Yorobe (Bloomington, Wis.) fired
a 9-over par 82 on Friday to pace the Green Bay women's golf team and help the
Phoenix sit alone in fifth place after round one of the 2012 Horizon League
Golf Championships at Mission Inn Resort. The three-day, 54-hole conference championship
will continue with Saturday's second round.
Green Bay shot a 57-over par 349 on Friday, just seven
shots back of second place. Butler leads the women's tournament at 39-over par
(331) while Detroit (342, +50), Cleveland State (344, +52) and Loyola (345,
+53) sit just ahead of Green Bay. Youngstown State (350, +58), Valparaiso (351,
+59) and UIC (378, +86) round out the field.
Yorobe's round included a 41 on both the front and
back nine and a birdie on the par-5 10th hole. The senior also carded nine pars
in her first round and is tied for fifth heading into Saturday.
Sophomore Molly Fassbinder (Hudson, Wis.) used back-to-back birdies on nine and 10 en route
to an 88. Senior Stephanie Fifield
(Oconto Falls, Wis.) was one stroke back of Fassbinder on the strength of a 41
on the back nine, and junior Christina De Boer (Onalaska, Wis.) carded a 90 to
round out the scoring rounds for the Phoenix.
