Post-Presidential Retreat Working Groups
College
athletics is challenged by rapidly growing pressures coming from many
directions. Campus leaders will need to act more aggressively and
comprehensively than in the past. Tweaking the rules will not accomplish
the goals of NCAA President Mark Emmert.
Working groups were created after the
August 2011 Presidential Retreat to affect needed change in the areas of
student-athlete well-being; NCAA bylaws; the enforcement and penalty
process; and fiscal sustainability in Division I.
As we pursue reform, we must bear in mind that there is nothing more
important to collegiate athletics than integrity. We must attack those
areas that are serious threats to our integrity and not confuse them
with those that are not. This requires us to rethink approaches to many
of these issues and how to deal with them.
