GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay
volleyball team will play in three tournaments this spring, including a home alumni
event on March 31. Head coach Debbie Kirch's team will open the spring slate this
weekend a tournament at Marquette. The Phoenix will wrap up the spring at UIC's
spring tournament on April 21.
Kirch will be replacing three impactful hitters with
the graduations of seniors Abbey Gitter
(Hortonville, Wis.), Kelly Mischler (Kaukauna, Wis.) and Carlie Willison (Greenfield, Wis.), but will also welcome back All-Horizon League libero Brittany Groth (Oak Creek, Wis.), middle
hitter Carmen Leitermann (Schofield,
Wis.) and setter Leah Poel (Jenison,
Mich.) among nine returning letterwinners.
Groth, Leitermann and Poel recently competed in the
U.S. Women's National Team open tryouts in Colorado Springs, Colo. Groth broke
the single-season school record for digs with 656 in 2011.
The alumni event on March 31 will get underway at the
Kress Center at 9:30 a.m. and is free of charge and open to the public. The
Phoenix will be doing a four-on-four tournament before concluding with a
best-of-five match.
