GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com)
- The Green Bay volleyball team put on a clinic Wednesday night at the Kress
Events Center for an area club team. The clinic was auctioned off in the fall
as part of the program's Compete to Beat Initiative in partnership with Bellin
Health to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer.
In the two-hour clinic, Phoenix players and coaches worked
with the participants on the basics of volleyball - including serving, passing,
setting and hitting - while also incorporating competition through various
drills and games.
"Our team had a great time at the clinic," Green Bay head
coach Debbie Kirch said. "Our
players have always been generous with their time when it comes to giving back
to the sport of volleyball and supporting a great cause like the Compete to
Beat program."

The clinic was won in the auction by Green Bay Athletics
supporters and UW-Green Bay employees John Landrum and Linda Peacock-Landrum,
who bid on the clinic for their daughter's club team.
"The Landrum family has always been very supportive,"
Kirch said. "Not just of our program, but of the entire athletics department,
so it was fitting that they purchased the auction item."
Green Bay volleyball's Compete to Beat Initiative
generates money for the Patient Assistance Fund at The Cancer TEAM at Bellin
Health, a fund that helps patients burdened by the financial side of cancer
treatments.
"We appreciate all the support our Compete to Beat
program received this fall," Kirch said. "Between the online auction, t-shirt
sales and donations we were able to increase our fundraising efforts from the
previous year and continue to raise awareness for cancer research."
The partnership between Bellin Health and Green Bay
Athletics continues in February with a pair of basketball games to fight cancer
- the
men's Black Out Cancer game Feb. 4 and the women's PinkZone game Feb. 25.
