MACOMB, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up convincing road wins over Western Illinois Thursday night at Brophy Pool on the WIU campus. The Phoenix women took all 13 events en route to a 168-52 victory, while the men's squad had a winner in 10 events to cruise to a 151-90 decision.
Lauren Caruso (DeForest, Wis.) won a pair of individual events Thursday to lead the Phoenix women. The senior placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:25.19 before taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.37.
Freshmen Dana Iverson (Kenosha, Wis.) and Amanda Walker (Sun Prairie, Wis.) were also two-time winners on the women's side, as Iverson took the 1000 free (11:12.32) and 100 backstroke (1:02.13), while Walker won the 50 free (25.10) and 100 butterfly (58.44) races.
On the boards, junior Jessica Stolfi (Kenosha, Wis.) and sophomore Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.) swept the diving events for the Phoenix women. Stolfi won the 1-meter board with a score of 213.68, while Dinelli took the high board with a total of 238.43.
On the men's side, senior Alex Hallam (Wausau, Wis.) and freshman Matt Hollub (Appleton, Wis.) each picked up two individual wins to lead the Phoenix. Hallam cruised to victory in the 200 IM (2:02.39) and 500 free (4:57.21), while Hollub won the 200 free (1:47.69) and 100 backstroke (53.80).
Senior Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.) took the 1-meter diving competition, posting a dominating score of 328.65 - 27 points ahead of second place. Junior Mitchell Spaeth (Fredonia, Wis.) earned the win on the 3-meter board Thursday, posting a first-place total of 295.50.
The Phoenix swimming and diving teams will return to action on Saturday when they head to Madison to take on in-state rival Wisconsin at 2 p.m.
