GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) -
The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in their
final home event of the 2011-12 season on Saturday - a Senior Day dual meet
against Horizon League opponent UIC at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium. The
women's contest ended in a rare tie (121-121), while the Flames defeated the
Phoenix on the men's side 158-83.
UIC's
women had seven first-place finishes in the draw, while Green Bay had a winner
in six of the meet's 13 women's events. On the men's side, the Flames took all
but one event in the victory. The Phoenix women move to 5-1-1 in dual meets
this season, while the men's squad falls to 3-3.
Sophomore
Kendra Rottier (Green Bay, Wis.) was
a two-time winner for the Phoenix women, taking the 1650-yard freestyle in
17:15.45 before winning the 200 butterfly in 2:07.18.
Also
racing to victories for the Green Bay women were Amanda Walker (Sun Prairie, Wis.) in the 200 free (1:54.56), Emilee Harry (Sheboygan, Wis.) in the
50 free (24.56) and Amber Bartholomew
(Alexandria, Minn.) in the 200 IM (2:06.56).
Sophomore
Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.)
had a strong day on the diving boards for Green Bay, picking up first-place and
a third-place finishes. Dinelli posted a personal-best score of 261.90 en route
to winning the 3-meter event, while her 1-meter score of 227.03 was just two
points out of first place.
Collecting
the lone win for the Phoenix men was junior Tyler Evans (Lodi, Wis.), who placed first in the 100 free in
46.90. Evans also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 free, touching in
less than a second behind UIC's Daniel Corley (1:42.58) in 1:43.15.
The
Phoenix men and women have a trio of road dual meets to finish the regular
season, beginning with a trip to Western Illinois next Thursday. Green Bay then
travels to Wisconsin (Jan. 21) and Milwaukee (Feb. 4) before competing in the
Horizon League Championships Feb. 22-25 in Milwaukee, Wis.
SENIOR DAY: The Phoenix swimming and
diving program honored its seven seniors Saturday afternoon: Amber Bartholomew (Alexandria, Minn.), Amy Burback (Waunakee, Wis.), Lauren Caruso (DeForest, Wis.), Hannah Egger (Marshfield, Wis.), Nicole Gill (Arlington Heights, Ill.), Alex Hallam (Wausau, Wis.) and Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.).
