GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay women's soccer senior Corey Arno
(Winneconne, Wis.) has been named to the 2011 All-Horizon League Second Team,
the conference office announced on Monday. It marks the second time the
midfielder has received postseason honors, as she was also selected to the
All-Newcomer Team as a freshman.
"I'm
proud that Corey has been honored as one of the best defenders in the Horizon
League," Phoenix head coach Trevor Warren said. "Corey played with
injuries the entire season and didn't miss one minute while at the same time
shutting down every forward she faced. She led on the field by example and has
a heart as big as a lion's packed into her 5-foot-2 frame."
Arno
started all 18 games for one of the league's toughest defenses - one that
allowed just 16 goals in its first 17 contests. She took 11 shots on the season
and scored the game-winner in Green Bay's 2-1 victory over Cleveland State on
Alumni Weekend Sept. 25.
The
senior started all 68 matches since setting foot on campus in 2008, playing
more than 6,000 minutes in a Green Bay uniform. She finished her Phoenix career
with 12 points (5 goals, 2 assists), while knocking in three game-winning
goals.
