CLEVELAND, Ohio
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After having a week off from competition, the Green Bay men's and women's
cross country teams competed in the Horizon League Championships held Saturday
in Cleveland, Ohio. For the first time since 2008, Green Bay had a runner
represented on the All-League Team as junior Lauren Mauel (Green Bay, Wis.) ran
to a 12th place finish, collecting Second Team All-League honors. As a team,
the women finished in sixth place finish while the men's squad finished ninth.
Just like she has all season, Mauel paced the Phoenix with a
time of 19:45, completing the 5K course running a 6:23/mile pace. Classmate Areanna
Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) finished in 35th place with a time of 21:15 while running
a pace of 6:51/mile. Freshman Nicole Will (Luxemburg, Wis.) was right on the
heels of Lakowske, finishing in 37th with a time of 21:19.
Competing in her first college career conference
championship, freshman Erica Johnson (Felch, Mich.) finished in 41st place with
a time of 21:25 while classmate Kayla Hucke (Hartland, Wis.) was 61st with a
time of 22:59, running a 7:25/mile pace.
As a team Green Bay scored 186 points while running an
average time of 21:21.1.
Sophomore Alex Kimble (Green Bay, Wis.) paced the men's team
with a time of 28:40, running an average pace of 5:47/mile, finishing in 42nd
place. Freshman Andy Sorenson (Onalaska, Wis.) rounded out the top 60 runners
with a time of 29:33 while senior Josh Clark (Gillett, Wis.) completed his
final conference race of his career in a time of 29:40, finishing in 62nd place
while running an average pace of 5:59/mile.
Steve Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) finished the 8K course in 68th
place with a time of 29:55 while Erik Blomsness (Winona, Minn.) crossed the
line in 30:34, rounding out the top five scorers for the Phoenix.
The men scored 259 points while running an average time of
29:40.7.
Butler claimed both the men's and women's titles scoring 25
and 28 points respectively. It was the 14th-consecutive championship for the
men and third straight for the women.
Green Bay will compete in the NCAA Great Lakes District Regional
Saturday, Nov. 12 at Ottawa Park Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio.
