GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Since 1976 the Green Bay (4-2-1, 1-0-0) men's soccer team has battled
in-state and Horizon League rival Milwaukee (4-4-0, 1-0-0) for rights to the
Chancellor's Cup. Wednesday, Sept. 28 the Phoenix will look to retain the cup
for the fourth consecutive season as it heads to Engelmann Field to face the
Panthers at 7 p.m. The game will be the start of Green Bay's second four-game road
trip of the season.
Wednesday's game will be the 34th meeting for the coveted cup
as Green Bay has won the last three meetings against the Panthers. Of the 34
cup games played, 12 have gone to overtime, including a 2-1 overtime win last
season at Milwaukee.
Both teams enter the contest with opening wins in Horizon
League play. Green Bay hosted Loyola Sept. 24, capturing a 2-1 victory on
Alumni Night while the Panthers earned a 3-1 win at defending Horizon League
champion Butler.
Green Bay is being led in scoring by Alonso Flores (Chicago,
Ill.), who is one of three Phoenix players with two goals on the season.
Sophomore Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) also has two goals and leads Green Bay
and the league with 24 shots and 10 shots on goal. Senior Tony Walls (Wauwatosa,
Wis.) is the team's leader in assists with four and has also tallied two goals
throughout 11 shots. Walls is tied for second in the league in assists and 23
in the country in the category.
Current Horizon League Player of the Week, Gerardo Saavedra
is pacing the Panthers with four goals, four assists and 12 points. Saavedra
ranks second in the league in both points and assists.
National Rankings: Green Bay moves up two spots to No.
37 in this week's TopDrawerSoccer.com national poll and for the second
consecutive week is receiving votes in the NSCAA Regional Rankings.
