GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's soccer team (2-7-2, 0-1-0) is
set to host Cleveland State (7-3-0, 0-1-0) on Sunday as part of the men's and
women's programs' annual Alumni Weekend. Kickoff is set for noon at Santaga
Stadium.
"It's
always fun to see the alumni back on campus and catch up with them," Green Bay
head coach Trevor Warren said. "I know they look forward to coming back
and meeting up with their old teammates and their friends from the men's
program. I hope they will enjoy the game on Sunday and cheer us on to a
victory."
The
Phoenix is 5-2 all-time against the Vikings in a series that dates back to
2004. CSU took the most recent meeting between the two schools, a 1-0 decision
in 2010, however the Phoenix dominated the last contest at Santaga Stadium with
a 5-1 victory in 2009. Then-sophomore Corey Arno (Winneconne, Wis.)
picked up an assist in that match.
LAST WEEK: The Phoenix dropped a pair of 1-0 decisions last week,
falling to Valparaiso on the road Friday in its Horizon League opener before
being upended by Western Illinois in its non-conference finale Sunday at
Santaga Stadium. Six of Green Bay's seven losses this season have been one-goal
decisions.
CSU is fresh off a 1-0 win over
Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Thursday night. Last week the Vikings fell 4-0 to
league-leading Milwaukee on Friday and then edged IUPUI on Sunday 3-2. All
three matches were at home.
ALUMNI WEEKEND: On Sunday Green Bay women's soccer honors all of the
alumni in the program's 24-year history. Since 1987, 219 student-athletes from
12 states and five countries have played for the Phoenix. All of the alumni in
attendance will be recognized at halftime of Sunday's match.
The women's program's alumni
festivities will coincide with the men's team's Alumni Weekend, with the
exception of the women's alumni game at 1 p.m. on Saturday. For more details, click here.
RECORD WATCH: After making six saves in last Sunday's 1-0 loss to Western
Illinois, Phoenix
goalkeeper Maddie Drusch (Appleton, Wis.) now has 350 career saves and
needs just three more to surpass Laura Sandt (352, 1994-97) in the school
record books. The senior also has
14 career shutouts, a figure that ranks second on the school's all-time list
behind Barb Singer (17.5 shutouts, 1990-93).
