(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Freshman Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.)
recovered from an opening-round 80 on Monday morning to finish ninth at the Erv
Kaiser Invitational and help the Green Bay men's golf team take third. The
Green Bay native fired rounds of 73 and 76 in the second and third rounds at
Oxbow Country Club for his first career top-10.
Green Bay's three-day total of 922 placed them third
in the eight-team field, behind Manitoba (904) and South Dakota (909). Junior Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.) was a stroke
back of Boockmeier with a 54-hole total of 230 (75-75-80) and finished in a tie
for 14th. Boockmeier tied for the tourney lead in birdies with nine while Ebert
tallied seven.
Freshman Tyler
Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis.) and senior Cam
Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) were 21st (74-81-80=235) and 23rd
(77-79-80=236). Sophomore Sam Weber
(Heartland, Wis.) had the team's best round of the tourney with an opening
round 73 but finished in a tie for 30th (73-80-87=240).
Playing as an individual, sophomore Dan Ozga (Edgerton, Wis.) also tied for
ninth for Green Bay. He had identical rounds of 74 in Monday's first and second
rounds before finishing with an 81 on Tuesday. Freshmen Nic Johnson (Wales, Wis.) and Derek
Fiestadt (Kaukauna, Wis.) were tied for 14th (78-73-79=230) and tied for 19th
(77-77-80=234) respectively.
Green Bay returns to the course for competition on
Oct. 1 for a dual meet against Butler.
