Junior Chad Ebert led the Phoenix with a 73 on Monday.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Junior Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.) carded a one-over par 73 to pace the Phoenix in the opening round of the Green Bay Invitational and help the hosts to sit just three strokes out of the lead entering Tuesday's final round at Green Bay Country Club. Green Bay shot a 301 (+13) as a team and trail North Dakota State (298), Saint Ambrose (300) and Butler (300) in a bunched of leaderboard.

Ebert's round leaves him in sixth place but only two shots off the lead of North Dakota State's Ursinio Puga Gil, who was the lone player under par on a windy day. The junior had three birdies on the par 72, 7,097 yard line.

Green Bay had two freshmen just stroke a stroke back of Ebert in a tie for ninth place. Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) led the field in birdies with five on the way to his 74 while Tyler Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis.), competing on the Green Bay B team, equaled that score.

The other three players competing for the Green Bay A team - Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.), Sam Weber (Heartland, Wis.) and Dan Ozga (Edgerton, Wis.) each finished with five-over par 77s.
