KENOSHA, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams turned in strong
performances while participating in the 32nd annual Midwest Open hosted by
UW-Parkside. The women's team finished third in the 13-team field while the men
finished sixth among its 12-team field.
For the second consecutive week junior Lauren Mauel (Green
Bay, Wis.) paced the way for the Phoenix with a strong third place performance.
Mauel finished the 5K course in a time of 18:51, the fastest of any Horizon League
runner.
Less than 30 seconds separated the next three Phoenix runners
as Freshman Erica Johnson (Felch, Mich.) finished in 12th place with a time of
19:50 while Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) was 15th crossing the line in a
time of 20:04 followed by Nicole Will (Luxemburg, Wis.) in 17th with a time of
20:17.
Senior Annie Dehmlow (Forest Lake, Minn.) rounded out the top
five finishers for Green Bay completing the hilly course in a time of 22:12 in
54th place. Teammates Heidi Langteau (Stetsonville, Wis.) and Lindsy Cook
(Rhinelander, Wis.) finished in 55th and 56th place respectively.
The women combined for 101 total points, 31 points behind
in-state Horizon League rival UW-Milwaukee who finished in second. Host
UW-Parkside won the team title scoring 37 points.
On the men's side sophomore Alex Kimble (Green Bay, Wis.) was
the top finisher for the Phoenix. Kimble crossed the line in 17th place with a
time of 27:38. Teammate Josh Clark (Gillett, Wis.) finished in 26th place with
a time of 28:12.
Just 20 seconds separated Green Bay's next three runners to
round out the top five. Junior Stephen Wagner (Seymour, Wis.) crossed the line
in 40th place with a time of 28:53 followed by freshman Andrew Sorenson
(Onalaska, Wis.) in 43rd place with a time of 29:04 and Erik Blomsness (Winona,
Minn.) in 45th with a time of 29:13.
The men combined for 171 points, finishing in sixth place
overall. Host UW-Parkside also won the men's competition while Horizon League
foe UW-Milwaukee finished in third place.
Both teams will compete in their last in-state meet of the
season on Sept. 17, participating in the Concordia Falcon Invite held in
Mequon, Wis. at 11 a.m.
