PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay men's and women's cross country teams opened up their
seasons competing at the UIC opener at Horse Trail Lake in Palos Heights, Ill.
over the weekend.
On the women's side, junior Lauren Mauel (Green Bay, Wis.)
was the top performer for Green Bay crossing the finish line in third place
with a time of 11:35.
Three seconds was the difference between three other Phoenix
runners who finished in the top 25 in the women's race including freshman Erica
Johnson (Felch, Mich.), junior Areanna Lakowske (Sparta, Wis.) and freshman
Nicole Will (Luxemburg, Wis.). Johnson made her collegiate debut finishing in a
time of 12:11 while running a 6:06/mile pace while Lakowske finished in 12:13
followed by Will in 12:14.
Junior Annie Dehmlow (Forest Lake, Minn.) rounded out the top
five finishers for Green Bay with a time of 13:07, running at a 6:34/mile pace.
As a team the women went 3-3, beating Horizon League competitors
UIC and UW-Milwaukee in head-to-head competition. Green Bay was one point
better than the host Flames and three points better than its in-state rival
Panthers.
Alexander Kimble (Green Bay, Wis.) made his Green Bay cross
country debut leading the men's team with a time of 21:46, running at a 5:19/mile
pace. Kimble's run was good enough for 24th place overall.
Senior Joshua Clark (Gillett, Wis.) completed the course
running at a 5:37/mile pace, finishing in 23:01. William Lobner (Wisconsin
Rapids, Wis.) followed closely behind finishing in 23:02 while Erik Blomsness
(Winona, Minn.) crossed the line with a time of 23:14 followed by freshman
Andrew Sorenson (Onalaska, Wis.) in a time of 23:30 to round out the top five.
The men went 1-5 in head-to-head competition, beating Chicago
State University.
Both teams will compete at UW-Parkside Saturday, Sept. 10 in
Kenosha, Wis. with the women's race beginning at 10 a.m.
