GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Four UW-Green Bay student-athletes have been named to
the Horizon League Spring All-Academic squads, the league office announced this
week. Men's tennis players Fabian Gogolin and Erik Finkenbrink were joined by women's tennis senior Emily Lawent and women's golf senior Ellyn Hansen in receiving the honor.
Finkenbrink
and Gogolin helped the men's tennis squad to a 16-8 record this season,
including a 6-1 mark in league play, and a spot in the Horizon League
Tournament title game this past spring. Finkenbrink was named to the
All-Horizon League Second Team and was named the Horizon League Player of the
Week on March 1. He played all but one match at No. 1 singles and compiled an
11-10 record at singles. He also posted a 17-3 doubles record including a
perfect 7-0 mark in league play. A business administration major, the sophomore
has a cumulative grade point average of 3.854.
Gogolin,
a senior business administration major, had a perfect 4.0 grade point average
in the classroom. On the court for the Phoenix, Gogolin had a 15-8 record in
singles and excelled against conference foes with a 6-1 mark. He played the
majority of the season at No. 1 doubles, posting a 12-11 record.
Lawent,
a senior majoring in Spanish education, was the recipient of the Herb Foster
Award for sportsmanship and excellence on the court. Playing the entire season
at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, Lawent also had a cumulative grade
point average of 3.939.
Hansen
spent the entire spring as the No. 1 golfer on the women's team for the
Phoenix. She finished her career with a flourish by taking 11th
place at the 2011 Horizon League Championships in Florida. A statistical
mathematics major, Hansen had a cumulative grade point average of 3.717 during
her illustrious career on the course and in the classroom.
