GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay divers
Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.) and Kayla Deters
(Sauk Rapids, Minn.) are set to compete at the NCAA Zone D Diving
Championships, held March 11-13 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming
Center at the University of Texas-Austin.
The meet serves and the qualifier for the NCAA Championships held later
this month.
Pogue
makes his third straight trip to Zones while Deters is ready for her
second consecutive NCAA qualifying meet. Pogue qualified for the meet
in the team's season opener against
Cleveland State on Oct. 23 with a 1-meter score of 311.85, while Deters
qualified on Nov. 6 with a 1-meter score of 266.40 in a win over South
Dakota.
Pogue,
a junior who is coming off a Diver of the Meet performance at the 2011
Horizon League Championships last month, will compete in Friday's
1-meter event at 10 a.m., followed
by the 3-meter dive on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. Last season, Pogue became
the first diver in Green Bay history to make the finals in both the
1-meter and 3-meter events. He earned the highest placing by a Phoenix
diver at a NCAA Zone event with a 14th-place showing
on the 1-meter board and also placed 16th in the 3-meter event.
Deters
will participate in the 3-meter on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and the 1-meter
on Saturday at 10 a.m. The senior finished 35th in last season's 3-meter
event and 42nd in the 1-meter
competition.
A
total of seven men and 11 women will earn bids to the NCAAs out of Zone
D. The women's qualifiers will advance to the NCAA Championships in
Austin (March 17-19), while the men's
qualifiers will compete at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minn.
(March 24-26).
The
Phoenix divers will face competition from Texas, Texas A&M, SMU,
TCU, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa State, Houston, Minnesota,
Arkansas, Wisconsin, LSU, New Orleans, Missouri
State, Milwaukee, Iowa, North Texas, St. Louis and Northern Iowa.
