GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After leading
her team to an undefeated weekend on the road, Green Bay volleyball senior Whitney Schott (Roscoe, Ill.) has been named the Horizon League Offensive
Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Schott becomes the
third Phoenix player to be given a weekly award this season and the first for
her play offensively.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Whitney," said head
coach Debbie Kirch. "She has been
our rock all season, not just running the offense but as a leader on the court
as well. Picking up two road wins this past weekend was definitely a team
effort, but Whitney always leads from the front and she helped the team stay
composed on the road during close matches."
Schott, the team's setter and lone senior, handed out 54
assists last Friday night as the Phoenix hit .263 and upset Butler in four sets
on the road. The senior also collected a career-high 25 digs in the match while
helping Green Bay limit the Bulldogs to a .169 hitting percentage.
The co-captain then helped her team avoid a letdown on
Saturday at Wright, tallying 33 assists as Green Bay extended its win streak to
three matches and clinched a spot in the Horizon League Tournament.
Schott has 1036 assists and 33 service aces this
season, and her averages of 9.87 assists and 0.31 services aces per set rank
sixth and third in the Horizon League respectively.
The team's lone senior, Schott will be honored
on Friday night when Green Bay wraps up its 2010 regular season at the Kress
Events Center at 7 p.m. against UIC.
