GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) -
Senior women's golfer Ellyn Hansen (Milton, Wis.) is in her
final year as a student-athlete at Green Bay. Hansen recently finished up her
last fall season and has mixed reactions about the conclusion of her career in
the spring.
"It hasn't sunk in yet that it is my last year of
competition. We still have our spring season, but when that concludes it will
be an array of emotions," said Hansen.
During Hansen's time here she proved to be a critical
addition to the team. Her first year corresponded with the founding of the first
women's golf team at Green Bay. Since Hansen was the first player to sign, she
took part in the formulation of the new team and took on a leadership role from
day one.
"Since we were all freshmen, there was no one to show us the
way," said Hansen. "It was a new experience and everyone was trying to find their
place within the team and school.
Despite the challenges, it's been an awesome and rewarding experience."
After the initial start-up, Hansen continued to excel
throughout her four years. She decreased her average each year and now has the
lowest average on the team for the year. Hansen's lowest score was 75 achieved
at the Butler Fall Invitational on Oct., 5.
Not only has Hansen found success on the golf course, but
also in the academic setting as well. In her pursuit of a mathematics major
with an emphasis in statistics and minors in business administration and economics
she has maintained a GPA of 3.7. Hansen has also received Horizon League
all-academic honors every semester.
Hansen will return to action in the spring to finish out her
successful collegiate career.
"My plans after this year are possibly entering the
workforce as an actuary or in my ideal field of sports statistics," said
Hansen. "Another option is coming back for a fifth year as an assistant coach
and picking up another major."
