GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After
playing six of its last seven matches at home, the Green Bay volleyball team
begins a four-match road trip this weekend with contests at Valparaiso and
Loyola. The Phoenix will play at Valpo Friday night at 7 p.m. before facing
Loyola Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
Green
Bay split its two contests with the same teams to begin the month of October.
In a thrilling five-set match, the Phoenix defeated Loyola 3-2 on Oct. 1 behind
43 assists and six kills from senior setter Whitney Schott (Roscoe, Ill.). The next day, freshman Lyndsay
Zabkowicz had 17 kills for the Phoenix but Green Bay lost to Valpo 3-1.
The
last time out, Green Bay rallied for a 3-1 win over visiting Youngstown State
on Oct. 23. Junior Abbey Gitter
(Hortonville, Wis.) registered a team-high 15 kills while junior Carlie Willison (Greenfield, Wis.) returned
from injury to spark the comeback with 11 kills off the bench.
With
a 4-7 Horizon League record, Green Bay will be looking to position itself for a
spot in the six-team conference tournament with just five regular-season
matches left on the schedule. The Phoenix is currently in sixth place, 1.5
