- The Green Bay women's golf team teed off in the first round of the
third-annual Chicago State Cougar Classic Monday at Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, Ind.
Green Bay senior Ellyn
Hansen (Milton, Wis.) and junior Stephanie
Fifield (Oconto Falls, Wis.) shot their best collegiate rounds in the
opening round.
Hansen posted a score of 77 (+5) while parring 13 holes.
Hansen shot 39 and 38, placing her in ninth heading into Tuesday's final round.
Meanwhile Fifield shot a solid 80 (+8) playing as an individual.
Fifield fired a 39 and 41 to finish in the top 20 in the 86-player field.
"I'm very excited to see Ellyn and Stephanie's scores match
their months of tireless preparation," said head coach Lucas Hana. "Both are
making new strides and scoring lows that will boost the team up the leader
board."
As a team, Green Bay currently sits in ninth place in the
14-team field after shooting 330 (+42) in the first round.
Eleanor Yorobe (Bloomington,
Minn.) fired an 82 (+10) to finish the day in 33rd place. Nicole Westcott (Mequon, Wis.) shot an
84 (+12) to finish in 41st while Christina De Boer shot 87 (+15) to round out the scoring for Green
Bay.
The two day tournament features 14 NCAA Division I schools
that represent six different conferences (Great West, Horizon League,
Southwestern Athletic, Ohio Valley, Summit League and Atlantic 10). The second
and final round of the Cougar Classic will tee of Tuesday at 8 a.m.
