- Led by three
golfers in the top-five, the Green Bay men's golf team sits in first place
after the opening two rounds of the Erv Kaiser Invitational, six strokes clear
of second place. Sam Weber led the
Phoenix Monday with an opening round, two-under par 70 and sits in a tie for
first place after 36 holes at Oxbow Country Club.
Led by Weber, the Phoenix shot a 306 in the first round and
entered the afternoon's 18 holes one stroke behind Manitoba. Green Bay improved
its score by 10 strokes in the second round, shooting an eight-over par 296. Manitoba
is in second place at 608 (+32), followed by the host, North Dakota State (+40).
North Dakota (+46), South Dakota (+53) and Manitoba B (+66) round out the
field. The tournament's final 18 holes will get underway Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
Weber birdied six holes in the opening round, and his 70 was
four shots clear of any other golfer in the field. A six-over 78 in the second
round dropped him into a tie with Manitoba's Jeff Bassey at four-over 148.
Teammates Austin Ehlenfeldt (79-72) and Cam Fuller (77-74) are tied for fourth
at seven-over 151.
After an opening round 81, Chad Ebert rallied for a one-over
73 in the second round and is tied for 13th (81-73=154). Teammate Paul Bretl finished
tied for 19th (80-77=157) to round out the Phoenix scorers.
Playing as an individual, Dan Ozga is in a tie for ninth
place at eight-over 152, just one stroke behind fourth place.
