GREEN BAY, Wis. (GREENBAYPHOENIX.COM) - The women's golf team teed off its season Monday with the first round of the Green Bay Invitational, held at the Green Bay Country Club.

The Phoenix finished the day in the middle of the pack, shooting a first-round score (+41), to sit 12 shots behind Loyola University in fourth place.

"We're within reach of the lead, which is what I expected and what we were hoping for after the first round," said head coach Lucas Hana.

Freshman Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis.) led the way for the Phoenix, shooting 7-over-par 80, placing her in a tie for sixth place heading into Tuesday's final round. Marschall finished with two birdies after her first round of play.

"Cassandra played well but we expect that from her because she's a talented golfer," said Hana.

Sophomore Nicole Westcott (Mequon, Wis.) and senior Ellyn Hansen (Milton, Wis.) both shot a first round score of 83 (+10) to finish the day tied in 12^th place. Meanwhile Christina De Boer (Onalaska, Wis.) shot 87 (+14) to round out Green Bay's top scorers.

"If we maintain our position, it will turn out to be a good tournament for us," said Hana.

The final round of the eight-team invitational will tee off Tuesday with a shot-gun start at 8:30 a.m.
