GREEN BAY, Wis. (March 30, 2010) - University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Athletics Director Ken Bothof announced today that the university will immediately begin a national search for a new head men's basketball coach following the departure of Tod Kowalczyk, who accepted the same position at the University of Toledo on Tuesday.
"On behalf of the Green Bay community, I would like to thank Tod for his service and dedication to UW-Green Bay over the past eight years and wish him the best of luck at Toledo," Bothof said. "He, his family and his staff definitely will be missed in the Phoenix family."
Kowalczyk compiled a 136-112 record (.548) over his eight-year tenure in Green Bay. The Phoenix went 44-24 over the past two seasons, recording a pair of 20-win seasons that culminated in College Basketball Invitational postseason appearances.
"Due to Tod and his staff's hard work and the university's commitment to its student-athletes, this program is positioned extremely well for the future," Bothof said. "I am confident that our opening will attract many high-quality basketball coaches looking for a tremendous opportunity."
After today's events, Bothof and university personnel will have no further comment regarding the coaching search until its conclusion.
