STEAMBOAT SPRINGS,
Colo. - The NCAA Skiing Championship wrapped up today on Howelsen Hill in
Steamboat Springs, Colo. where Green Bay senior Santi Ocariz (Spooner, Wis.)
finished his college nordic skiing career as an All-American and Carolyn Freeman (Ely, Minn.) turned her best performance at the National competition.
Ocariz rounded out the top ten in today's 20K Freestyle race
finishing in a time of 49:44.3 turning in the best performance by a male skier
in Phoenix history. For his efforts Ocariz earned Second Team All-American
honors, the first Green Bay skier to do so.
Freeman was very pleased with her 17th place
finish in the women's 15K Freestyle completing the course in 43:59.1 compared
to last year's 34th place finish. Freeman's finish was the second
best in the history of Green Bay women's nordic skiing.
As if skiing 20 and 30K races throughout three days wasn't
enough, both Ocariz and Freeman will be participating in a 90K race Sunday in
altitudes that reach up to 9,000 feet.
